Catamaran Lesson

Catamaran design lessons are designed to qualify sailors on the Nacra F18s and F18 infusions. These boats represent a significant investment and are the fastest boats that the club has, it is very unique for a public club to have such high level boats however our membership has demonstrated that we have the level of sailor that demands such a craft and that our membership is capable of treating the boats with the delicate attention they deserve. Once qualified on the Nacras there is an even stronger obligation on you to contribute to the UBC Sailing Club community, in particular you will be expected to volunteer to lead mentoring sessions and encourage/help all members move up to gain access to the club's advanced boats.

Being Nacra qualified really does mean that you are expected to be part of the Nacra community with the UBC Sailing Club

This year we have taken a different approach to lessons, giving students more time on the water and more opportunities for lessons.

Steps:

1. Nacra Rigging Clinic

2. 2 Mentoring Sessions

3.  Practice skills on Hobie 16 fleet

4. Crew during 5 races

5. Get evaluated for taking Nacras out without supervision

Lessons Calendar HERE.

Sign-up for the club HERE.

Rigging Clinic                                          Class Size: 8 students max            Cost: $20

This is a 3 Hour course going over the basics of how to rig a Cat.

Requirements

Advanced II and 20 hours of experience sailing the RS500s.

Instruction Hours
3 hours of instruction 100% on-land and 0% on-water instruction.  Usually held in the evenings.

Catamaran Mentoring Session               1 on 1 mentoring            Cost: $20

This 3 hour course covers all the basics, and will be used as a grading system before onto racing. With high performance boats like these 1 on 1 attention is really the only way to go.

Requirements

Rigging clinic, Advanced II and 20 hours of experience sailing the RS500s.

Instruction Hours

Due to the high performance of the Nacra F18s they can not be taught with a standard model. One on one mentoring in decent wind is required to ensure that sailors are qualified to handle these boats which represent a considerable investment by the club. If you are interested in getting qualified on the Nacras email Kris and Alex at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it   to confirm your eligibility then pay for the sessions at any office hours. Kris and Alex will explain how to schedule the sessions.

Crew While Racing                                1 on 1 mentoring           Cost: nothing

Racing experience is the best way to become comfortable with the high speeds that these boats can travel at. A few hours on course goes a long way to ensure that sailors can handle these boats while ripping around English Bay.

Requirements
At least two Mentoring sessions, and approval by mentor.

Instruction Hours
12 hours of instruction  20% on-land and 80% on-water instruction. Lessons are 2 Saturdays from 10am - 4pm
